What are soffits, facias, cladding and bargeboards?

What are Fascias?
A fascia runs vertically along external walls and is often found behind the gutters. It can also support them. You’ll see a fascia fitted where the roof of your house meets the walls on the outside. This is often one of the most weatherbeaten parts of the external fabric. If you look up towards the roof of your house where your gutters are located, this is where you’ll see your fascias.
We fix new PVCu fascias directly to the roof trusses and they work in keeping your roof protected and dry as well as supporting your guttering where it’s positioned.
What is a Soffit?
The soffit is to be found sitting horizontally underneath the fascia. The difference between the two is that you’ll find the fascia fixed upright whereas the soffit sits flat underneath it.
Soffits are useful in that they provide much needed ventilation into the roof space to prevent moisture and mould. They also work to keep the airspace in the roof of your house fresh. Ventilation is needed to prevent any wood roof bars, beams and the structure from moisture damage.
What is a Bargeboard?
If you live in a property with gables or a gable end, you’ll almost always find a Bargeboard. These were made in traditional or decorative styles. Chosen right they can be a great feature of your home.
